Archetypes and symbols

Art and travel - archetypes and symbols

Before the Corona Pandemic reduced physical travel to the extreme for a long period of time, I started to use my short professional stays in the world to take photographs.

I took pictures of people in special situations that touched me, of places like the famous cemetery "La Recoleta" in Buenos Aires or the botanical garden in Bangalore. Then I alienated these photographs by integrating them into my paintings like collages and letting them become part of a whole new story.

In the following, I present examples of such work. Some of them can be seen only by looking closely.

Hong Kong.

"Man at the Harbour with Lifebelt", Hong Kong photograph and from the exhibition catalogue "One Hundred Camellias", Nezu Museum, Tokyo.

Here, coloured photographs of tarot cards as a collage form the centre of the "frame pictures" - they, too, thus become part of a new story.
